What is CLAT?

  • CLAT stands for the Common Law Admission Test.
  • It is a national level law examination.
  • National Law Universities across the country (NLUs) conduct CLAT annually to admit students to their undergraduate and postgraduate law programs such as BA LLB, B.Com LLB and B.Sc. LLB.
  • CLAT is an online examination.
  • National University of Advanced Legal Studies Kochi (NUALS Kochi) is the conducting authority for CLAT 2019.
  • 19 National Law Universities (NLUs) are marked as participating institutes.
  • The total number of seats offered for the undergraduate programs are 2400.
  • The total number of seats offered for the postgraduate programs are 624.
  • There are close to 40,000 CLAT test takers for the UG programs and close to 5,500 CLAT test takers for the PG programs.
  • The test has 200 objective type questions for UG courses
  • For PG courses, the test has 50 questions.

How to apply

Eligibility Criteria for CLAT

Here is the eligibility criterion for CLAT for undergraduate programs

  • You should have scored at least 45% in your class 10+2 or equivalent exam
  • If you belong to SC/ST category, you should have secured at least 40% marks in your class 10+2 or equivalent exam
  • There is no upper age limit for applying and appearing for CLAT
  • If you are currently appearing in your class 12 or any other equivalent examination, you are also eligible for appearing for CLAT

Registration for CLAT

Follow the given steps to register for CLAT:

  1. Visit CLAT official website to access the application form.
  2. Fill the basic information to receive a provisional registration ID and password.
  3. Scan your documents, signatures and photo as per prescribed instructions and upload them in the right slots on the form.
  4. Fill in the CLAT application form and submit it.
  5. Each category (General, SC and ST Etc.) has different application fees. Ensure that you choose the correct category.
  6. Post the payment, you will be informed when the admit card is released for download.

Admit Card for CLAT

The CLAT 2019 admit card will be released on the CLAT official website.

To download your CLAT admit card, you should:

  • Visit the CLAT official website and click on ‘Download Admit Card’.
  • You will be directed to a page where you are required to provide your registered email ID and password.
  • Once you login, you can check and download your CLAT 2019 admit card (also known as hall ticket).

How to prepare

Preparation Tips for CLAT

  • Start your preparation with last years’ CLAT papers: Understand the type of questions asked and your current level of preparation. This will help you gain knowledge of CLAT and also give you a fair idea of your standing.
  • Practice, practice and practice: Get exposed to more questions of mental ability. Solve more papers and then analyze each one in detail. Take the help of your peers. Practice and get confident of your speed, subject knowledge and accuracy.
  • Read: Reading newspapers and other informative news media is crucial to get awareness on the various current affairs.
  • Make a plan: Go through the subjects thoroughly. The allocation of time to each subject will depend upon your analysis of how weak or strong you are in a particular aspect.
  • Prepare from school syllabus: In order to ace the elementary maths section, make sure to prepare from your school’s 9th and 10th standard books. This will ensure maximum knowledge about the CLAT maths syllabus.
