What is HBBVS?

HBBVS - incepted in 1981 - encourages students to take an interest in Science.

It also aims at inculcating a scientific attitude in students and uncovers a talent for science among the best.

Today, students all over from Maharashtra can take part in this exam.

This exam is conducted in three stages and contains the following:

  1. Written test
  2. Practical test
  3. Interview and evaluation of action research project

How to apply

Eligibility Criteria for HBBVS

You need to be a student in class 6 or 9 to participate in this exam.

Registration for HBBVS

The HBBVS registration contains two steps:

  1. School registration
  2. Student registration

To register as a school for the first time, you need to:

  1. Log on to www.msta.in.
  2. Click ‘Apply Online’.
  3. Click ‘New Register’.
  4. Fill in all the necessary details.
  5. Your ‘Login ID’ and ‘Password’ will now be sent to you via email and SMS.

To register as a school for the first time, you need to:

  1. Log on to www.msta.in
  2. Enter your login ID and password
  3. Click ‘My Profile’ to confirm your school details
  4. Click ‘Add Fees’ and fill up your personal details
  5. For individual registrations, click ‘Add student’ (one by one)
  6. For bulk registrations, click ‘Upload Student’ and then on ‘Download Template’
  7. Now open the saved template and enter all student details
  8. Log in once again and click ‘Upload Student’
  9. Now click ‘Browse’, select the template and then save it
  10. Now click ‘Export to Excel’ and take a printout

Application Fee for HBBVS

  1. Keep Rs. 10 per student aside as the processing fee
  2. Deposit the remaining amount - Rs. 180 per student - through any SBI branch
  3. This amount will be deposited in favour of:The Greater Bombay Science Teacher’s Association,State Bank of India,Current AC. No. 36494310194,Malad (W) IFSC : SBIN0000552
  4. Get the transaction ID or J-No. from SBI Bank and note it on the paying slip

Selection Process for HBBVS

Here’s the selection process for class 6 and 9 students:

Stage 1

  • You get a Passing Certificate if you score more than 35 marks
  • If you’re in the top 7.5% of the candidate pool, you get a Certificate of Merit and advance to the practical competition

Stage 2

  • If you’re in the top 10% of the candidate pool, you qualify for the interview
  • You also need a minimum of 30% in Phase 1 and 2

Scholarships and Awards through HBBVS

At the end of all four stages, you will be given an award based on your performance. To be eligible for the awards listed below, you need a minimum score of 30% in all 4 stages.

  • If you’re in the top 10%, you get a gold medal, a certificate and a scholarship of Rs. 1500
  • If you’re in the next 60%, you get a silver medal, a certificate and a scholarship of Rs. 1000
  • If you fall in the last category, you get a bronze medal, a certificate and a scholarship of Rs. 500
